The boiler seems to work, but one room stays cold. Before deciding a radiator needs replacement, examine heat distribution throughout the home. The symptom may involve controls, water circulation or the room’s requirements.
One radiator, several rooms or the whole home?
Record observations room by room when heating would normally be requested. Note perceived temperature, accessible valve settings and each radiator’s behaviour. Specify whether the problem is longstanding or followed work. Avoid changing several settings during this record, otherwise you cannot identify which change produced a result.
If every radiator stays cold, first read the heating mode and schedule. If one room is affected, describe its floor, orientation, approximate size and any curtains in front of the radiator. These details prove no cause, but give the engineer a more precise picture.
Understand what the controls do
Homegrade explains that the thermostat controls the heating demand, while thermostatic valves regulate individual radiators. A thermostat satisfied by its room’s temperature can stop the general demand even while another room remains uncomfortable. Coordinated settings matter as much as those of an individual radiator.
Check whether the schedule matches your presence and whether holiday or summer mode is active. Consult the manual for specialised controls. Arbitrarily raising the setpoint does not prove a radiator is faulty.
Air, flow and balancing: distinguish the possibilities
Bosch Belgium’s technical FAQ notes that air in the circuit can contribute to noise, while uneven flow or a stuck valve can explain unequal heating. Hydraulic balancing aims to distribute flow between radiators. These are possibilities to assess, not conclusions to draw from a photo.
Describe noises and which parts of the radiator seem warm. Before bleeding a radiator, check that this user operation is permitted for your system and that you can perform the follow-up checks in the manual. If unsure, ask the professional. Do not dismantle valves or repeatedly top up water to compensate for a recurring problem.
System flushing needs supporting findings
A cold radiator alone does not automatically justify cleaning the whole circuit. Before agreeing, ask which findings support the proposal, which parts are included and how the result will be checked. The same applies to replacing a circulation pump or radiator.

In a Brussels apartment building, plan coordination too
In Saint-Gilles, Etterbeek or elsewhere, communal heating may involve several contacts. Ask the property manager whether other homes have the same problem. Do not work on a shared riser or communal equipment without appropriate arrangements. Specify the floor, communal heating schedule and known recent work.
After the appointment, keep your initial observations and the settings explained by the professional. Compare comfort under similar conditions over several operating periods. Simple, dated records help determine whether the issue is resolved or further observations are needed.
